Australia’s leading gambling and entertainment group Tabcorp has thrown its support behind the Stud and Stable Staff Awards for 2019 with its sponsorship of the Thoroughbred Care and Welfare category.

Tabcorp’s sponsorship recognises both the importance to the racing industry of those who work behind the scenes and the significance to those workers of the Stud’s and Stables around Australia.

Jo Madsen, General Manager Industry Development at Tabcorp, expressed her delight that the organisation could play a part in supporting the welfare of horses whose racing or stud careers are over.

“We support well-regulated racing industries where the highest standards of integrity and animal welfare are a priority,” Jo said.

“We’re proud to recognise the men and women working in stables and studs across Australia, and, thank them for their contribution to our world-class racing industry.”

The GSSSA, an initiative of Thoroughbred Breeders Australia and Racing Australia, are sponsored worldwide by Godolphin.

The Awards, in their fifth year in Australia, offer recognition, encouragement and reward for staff in seven categories that cover all areas of work in the thoroughbred racing and breeding industries.

Winners in the categories of Leadership, Horsemanship, Dedication to Breeding, Dedication to Racing, Administration and Ancillary Services and Thoroughbred Care and Welfare each receive a trophy and a cash prize of A$10,000 with the Newcomer Award winner receiving A$5,000 and a trip to Dubai to tour Godolphin’s racing operations.

An overall Excellence Award is also made to the individual category winner who is judged to have shown a significant and exceptional contribution.

Tabcorp joins the Melbourne Racing Club Foundation as a sponsor of the GSSSA.
