MRC Foundation joins sponsorship

21 June, 2019

The MRC Foundation has joined in the sponsorship of the 2019 Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards. The GSSSA is an initiative of Thoroughbred Breeders Australia and Racing Australia offering recognition to everyone in every “backroom” of every stable, stud or office.

Godolphin sponsors the Awards in Britain, Ireland, France and the United States, as well as Australia.

In an agreement announced today, the MRC Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Melbourne Racing Club, is to sponsor the Administration and Ancillary Services category of the GSSSA.

The Award will now be known as the MRC Foundation Administration and Ancillary Services Award.

The MRC Foundation currently fund the Stable Well Being Program by Link Health and the Track Rider Scholarship operated by Melbourne Polytechnic School. Ms Patricia Faulkner AO, MRC Foundation Chairman, was delighted with the new partnership and encourages industry to nominate staff for the Foundation-funded category which will reward staff that work tirelessly in our stables, studs and offices, giving them the recognition they deserve.

The MRC Foundation and Melbourne Racing Club are pleased to join in to support of these magnificent Awards, and to highlight the recognition of the often unsung heroes of our industry, partnership is a natural fit for the MRC Foundation.

Godolphin’s Head of Corporate Services, Ross Cole, welcomed the involvement of the MRC Foundation.

“These awards have become an integral part of the local and international racing scene and to have an organisation such as the MRC Foundation involved only adds to their significance,” Cole said.

The GSSSA recognise the contribution made by the often-unseen members of the racing and breeding workforce whose behind the scenes efforts are as vital as any other to the continuing success of one of Australia’s biggest industries.

In the five years that the GSSSA have been in place, the Administration and Ancillary category has been won across a broad range of industry sector, including by staff from stud farms and racing stables across Australia, along with the admin manager of one of the world’s biggest thoroughbred transport companies, IRT.

The Stud & Stable Staff Awards consist of seven categories covering all areas of the racing and breeding industries.

Each category offers a trophy, $10,000 to the winner plus $3000 to share among their workplace colleagues, and $1000 to the runner-up.

In addition an overall Thoroughbred Excellence award of $5000 and a trophy is made to the category winner judged to have made the most significant and exceptional contribution to the industry.

The MRC Foundation’s involvement is a continuation of that organisation’s work in supporting a diverse range of groups and organisations with a view to enriching the lives of people in need.
