Finalists – Administration and Ancillary Services 2018

1 May, 2018

The backstage jobs in racing aren’t necessarily confined to the hands-on areas of stables and studs.

Equally essential are those who keep the business flowing smoothly in the administrative and logistical departments.

Michelle Nichols and Hannah Dick occupy two such offices in which they perform a role as vital as any other.

Michelle has worked at Arrowfield Stud for 20 years where she is responsible for all administrative work at the farm.

“Michelle is one of the mainstays of Arrowfield and her integrity, accuracy and diligence are all impeccable,” said the farm’s owner, John Messara.

Like so many finalists, Michelle was delighted to be nominated.

“It’s great that the people in the industry are recognised for something that’s not just a job, it’s part of your life,” she says.

Hannah Dick performs a similar job at Widden Stud, booking in mares, maintaining records, and organising transport. And with 1,650 mares served at Widden last season, the magnitude of the task speaks for itself.

“To know I’m appreciated by Widden Stud has been great,” she said.

“The nomination came out of the blue and I was not expecting it. When I got the phone call to say I was a finalist I was very shocked. It is one of my greatest achievements.”
